William Blackburn is a Detective Sergeant with the Lakewood Police Department, currently assigned as the supervisor of the Special Enforcement and Investigations Unit. He has been a police officer in Colorado for over 25 years.
In addition to his regular duties he is a supervisor on the Lakewood Police Department Hazardous Materials Team. Detective Sergeant Blackburn serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Adams and Jefferson County Hazardous Response Authority and has served on that board for seven years. He is retired as a volunteer firefighter, leaving at the rank of Company Officer and has been involved in hazardous materials response, environmental crime investigation and WMD response for over 20 years.
In addition, he teaches hazardous materials response at the Red Rocks Police Academy, the Lakewood Police Academy and for the State of Colorado Division of Fire Safety. Occasionally instructs for the EPA Criminal Investigation Division in their Advanced Environmental Crimes Training Program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center located in Glynco, Georgia.
